The three accused, a year-old from Greece, a year-old Samoan woman who lives in London and a year-old Samoan church minister, were taken into police custody while trying to leave the country on Tuesday. Few details are known about the alleged scheme but local media are reporting that the trio visited potential victims with a letter signed by a cabinet minister endorsing their business. Police Commissioner Egon Lincoln Keil told Talamua online he has heard about a cabinet minister "but I cannot say for sure because we are still investigating".

The three accused came to police attention after a local bank teller noticed large amounts of money being transferred from their local account to Great Britain. The Central Bank was informed and the flow of funds were monitored before the account was frozen. The Ministry of Police and other departments have recently completed an awareness programmed on cyber crime.
